Teresa Ciejka, RDH
Independent Oral Care Specialist
Teresa Ciejka graduated from MATC Dental Hygiene Program in 1997. Her professional and personal experience has shaped up the new path in her career, which is helping the “dentally disadvantaged population.”
Little over one year ago Teresa became involved with the HyLife Oral Health Alliance(HOHA), a professional network of hygienists who provide oral care services to dependent elders; especially those residing in assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing facilities.
The population of elderly adults is growing rapidly, and the need for adequate preventive oral services is increasing. Identification of risk factors in this population is crucial, and it requires an expertise of dental professional, and that is where Teresa fits right in.
Educating her community about health risks that are linked to poor oral hygiene, was a new area Teresa had to embrace. It took training, practice, working with a journalist from local paper, and support from other ladies at HOHA. Teresa’s public appearances are truly enjoyable, and allow her to get to know people in her community.
Teresa also works as a clinical hygienist at Dr. Michael Hill’s office and Cedar Creek Dental. She is married to Dr. Jan Ciejka (Rheumatologist) and has one son Matthew, who graduated college at WMU and is in pursue of Master Degree in Music Performance.
Teresa also likes long walks, bicycling, crocheting, international travel, singing in the church choir. She completed one Humanitarian Mission to Peru and worked with the poorest population of orphaned children.
